Blown-In Insulation Installation in Virginia Beach, VA
Picture this: it’s August in Virginia Beach, your AC is running nonstop, and you’re dreading the electric bill. Or maybe it’s January and some rooms feel like an icebox no matter where you set the thermostat. Sound familiar?
A lot of times, the problem is hiding right above your head. Your attic insulation—or lack of it—might be the reason you’re uncomfortable and paying too much.
That’s where blown-in insulation comes in. And at Level Home Pros, it’s one of our specialties.
What Is Blown-In Insulation?
Unlike the pink batts you might be picturing, blown-in insulation is loose and fluffy. We use a machine to blow it into your attic, where it settles into every nook and cranny.
Think of it like snow falling and covering everything evenly. It gets into all the weird spots that pre-cut batts can’t reach—around pipes, wires, and all those irregular shapes in your attic.
For existing homes that need an insulation upgrade, blown-in is often the best choice. It goes in fast, covers completely, and doesn’t require taking anything apart.
Cellulose or Fiberglass: Which One Is Better?
We install both types, and each has its strengths.
Which one should you choose? Honestly, it depends on your situation. We’ll look at your attic, talk about your goals, and help you decide. Both options work great when installed properly.
- Cellulose is made mostly from recycled newspapers treated to resist fire. It's an eco-friendly choice that packs in tight and does a great job stopping air movement. It's heavier and denser than fiberglass, which helps it stay put and block drafts.
- Fiberglass loose-fill is made from tiny glass fibers, just like the batt version. It's lighter, won't absorb moisture, and doesn't settle as much over time. For humid areas like Virginia Beach, fiberglass handles our climate well.
Where Does Blown-In Insulation Shine?
Attics are the number one spot for blown-in insulation. The machine lets us cover your entire attic floor quickly and evenly. We can work around ductwork, wiring, and all the obstacles without leaving gaps.
Enclosed walls are another good use. If your walls don’t have insulation—common in older homes—we can blow insulation in through small holes without tearing out your drywall. The holes are easy to patch, and you get insulated walls with minimal disruption.
Floor cavities above crawlspaces or basements also benefit. The loose material fills in around pipes and wires better than batts can.
Basically, anywhere that’s hard to reach or has irregular spaces is a good candidate for blown-in insulation.
How We Do It Right
Blowing insulation into an attic sounds simple, but the details matter a lot. Here’s how we approach every project:
- We start with an energy check-up. Before we add any insulation, we want to know what's really going on. We use thermal imaging cameras to see where heat is escaping. Often, the problem isn't just missing insulation—it's air leaks that let your heated or cooled air escape.
- We seal the leaks first. This step is huge. If we just piled insulation on top of air leaks, you'd still lose a lot of energy. We find the gaps around light fixtures, pipes, wiring, and other penetrations and seal them up tight.
- We protect your ventilation. Your attic needs to breathe. We install baffles that keep the insulation from blocking your soffit vents. Good airflow prevents moisture problems and keeps your roof healthy.
- Then we blow in the insulation. We go for even coverage at the right depth. For Virginia Beach, we typically aim for R-49 to R-60 in attics. That usually means 16 to 20 inches of material.
- We measure as we go. Our installers check the depth constantly to make sure you're getting the coverage you're paying for.
- When we're done, we show you the results. We take thermal images after the work so you can actually see the difference.
How Much Can You Save?
Here’s the honest truth: it varies. Your savings depend on how much insulation you had before, how leaky your house is, and how much you use your AC and heat.
That said, the Department of Energy says proper attic insulation can cut heating and cooling costs by up to 15%. Many of our customers see even bigger savings, especially if they started with little or no insulation.
But forget percentages for a second. What most people notice first is how much better their home feels. That upstairs bedroom that was always too hot? It’s comfortable now. The room over the garage that felt like a freezer? Problem solved.
When your HVAC system doesn’t have to fight against a poorly insulated attic, everything works better.
Why Virginia Beach Homes Need This
Our climate is tough on houses. Summers are hot and humid—we all know that. Your attic can hit 140 degrees on a sunny day. Without enough insulation, that heat pushes down into your living space and makes your AC work overtime.
Winters might be mild compared to up north, but we still have cold snaps. Heat rises, and if your attic isn’t insulated, that expensive heated air goes straight up and out.
Humidity is the other challenge. We choose insulation materials and techniques that work in our moist climate. Fiberglass handles humidity well, and proper ventilation prevents moisture from building up.

Your Questions Answered
How much insulation do I need?
It depends on what you have now. Most Virginia Beach attics should have R-49 to R-60 worth of insulation. We’ll measure what you have and tell you how much more you need.
How long does this take?
Usually just one day for most houses. Larger homes or attics that need a lot of prep work might take two days.
Will the insulation settle and get thinner?
Some settling happens, especially with cellulose. We install extra to account for this so you’ll still have the R-value you need years from now.
Is this stuff safe?
Absolutely. Both cellulose and fiberglass are safe when properly installed. Our team wears protective gear during installation, but once it’s in your attic, it’s completely safe for your family.
