What the Process Looks Like
When we encapsulate a crawl space, here’s what actually happens.
First, we inspect the space with thermal imaging. We’re looking for moisture intrusion points, existing damage, and areas where air is moving in or out. This step is what separates a good encapsulation job from one that fails in two years.
Next, we install a thick, puncture-resistant vapor barrier across the floor and up the walls. We tape every seam. We seal every penetration, including pipes, wires, and supports.
Then we seal or condition the vents depending on your crawl space type. Most encapsulated crawl spaces in Virginia Beach do better as conditioned spaces, with the vents sealed and some connection to the home’s HVAC system.
Finally, we add rigid insulation to the crawl space walls. This is where the thermal performance really improves. It holds its R-value even in humid conditions, which makes it the right choice for this application.
